Train the Trainer Workshop on Blackboard Most Useful Tools (By Invitation)
Workshop : January 09, 2019 : 8:30 a.m - 11:00 a.m : Building 20 - Room 001
Description: This workshop will train the attendees to raise their knowledge and experience of Blackboard to enable them to be trainers of Blackboard in their academic departments. Attendees will get a high-level training on the most useful tools of Blackboard and will be provided with the necessary documentation, PowerPoint presentations, and knowledge that will allow them to train and/or solve basic Blackboard issues faced by faculty of their academic departments.

Description:Teaching & Learning Center organize orientation event for the new full time and part time faculty to introduce them to the policies of the university along with different services and facilities provided by the university.

Description: لم يعد التعليم كما كان في الماضي متمركزا على المحتوى العلمي بل تجاوز ذلك بأن أصبح بشكل أساسي مبني على ما يستطيع الطالب أن يعمله أو ينجزه بعد انقضاء المادة أو البرنامج الأكاديمي وهو ما يسمى بمخرجات التعلم للطلاب. كل الهيئات التي تعنى بتقويم التعليم سواء الوطنية أو العالمية تبنت القياس المستمر لمخرجات التعليم كمؤشر أساسي على ضمان الجودة الأكاديمية والتحسين المستمر للبرنامج ومخرجاته. في هذه الورشة سنستعرض ماهية مخرجات التعلم وأهميتها وكيفية صياغتها بالشكل الأمثل حتى تكون قابلة للقياس و كيفية قياسها بالشكل الملائم الذي يتناسب مع طبيعة المخرج.

Description: According to Bloom’s Taxonomy, Higher Order Thinking (H.O.T.), includes actively analyzing, evaluating, and creating, which students miss out on if they just passively sit in class thumb-tapping their phones, even if they are understanding and remembering course content. HOT ICE follows some of the principles of artificial intelligence’s deep learning, especially in regard to feature extraction, permutation, and cascading output into input.

Description: Midterm Student Feedback (MSF) can be valuable in identifying improvements in a course and attempting to implement them while the students, who provided the feedback, are still in the class. Students may appreciate the process as it gives them a chance to voice the opinion on the issues and see an action taken. The Deanship of Academic Development provides an online service to the instructors to carry out student survey to obtain feedback from the students. Through this system, the instructors can design their own feedback form and also release at their time of choosing.

Description: Midterm Student Feedback (MSF) can be valuable in identifying improvements in a course and attempting to implement them while the students, who provided the feedback, are still in the class. Useful Technologies and Mobile Apps in the Classroom

Description: This seminar will introduce to the attendees several mobile applications that will can be useful to faculty members in the classroom to enhance communication with students, share content between the instructor and students or between students among themselves, enhance interaction between students, or provide quick two-way feedback about the students understanding.
Academic Quality Assurance Framework

Description: In this workshop we will introduce the new framework for KFUPM academic quality assurance. We will explain the rationale behind this framework and the main requirements expected from faculty, departments, colleges, and the concerned committees and administrative units. We will also explain all the required templates and the developed Annual Assessment Calendar.

Description: Developed reading skills allow students to get the most from their education—one of the many reasons why it’s part of the curriculum, no matter the grade level. Faculty role as a teacher cannot end with a simple reading assignment. Part of faculty charge is to help ingrain a passion for reading so all students can achieve.
Analyzing Teaching Practice for Student Engagement

Description:We have come to recognize many new teaching strategies which are said to engage students better in learning than a regular lecture. Yet the common teaching practice is dominantly lecture-based. This workshop will provide an opportunity to analyze this scenario. Participants will discuss what are their experiences in their normal teaching practices which encourage or discourage them to reduce the transmission mode of teaching. The workshop will promote discussion around literature and practical cases to help participants analyze the potential of their teaching practice for student engagement.

Description: Examines teaching as is commonly practiced in higher education and questions its efficacy based on data that shows the existence of substantial quality problems that reduce student learning. Identifies the characteristics of good quality teaching and suggests the application of Lean principles and practices as a preferred method for continuously improving teaching and student learning outcomes.

Description: In this workshop we will walk the faculty members through ABET accreditation. What it is, why it is important, and what are the important milestones. We will explain ABET criteria and what is expected from faculty members and different committees involved in the accreditation efforts.
Connecting your devices to the classroom projector

Description: Nowadays, projectors have the capability to connect wirelessly and project the contents of computers and mobile devices. Unfortunately, many instructors are either not aware that the projectors in the classrooms supported this capability or know how to do the connection. This session will demonstrate how to connect laptops or mobile devices wirelessly to the classroom projector.
Tips on Developing Academic Policies and Procedures

Description: The University academic policies and procedures are the instruments by which academic practices are documented, quality is assured, and successful stories are codified and institutionalized. Writing format is at the core of well-developed policies and procedures. The Seminar will focus on the importance of documenting the academic policies and procedures in a standardized format, the difference between the policy and procedure documents, the policy and procedure development life-cycle, and some tips and guidance on writing policies and procedures.
